Colorado Compute · A proposal

Keep what you earn. Fund Colorado from the ground up.

Colorado can drop the state income tax, every sales tax and the tax on buildings, and fund the state with one yearly fee on land. Type your address to see yours.

Fee per acre, per year

The lightest shade is under $0.10 an acre. The darkest is $100,000 an acre or more.

Each shape is a 2020 census tract. Lines show counties. Tracts with no residents use the density of the tracts around them.

The formula

How the fee works

bill = square feet of land you own × 0.0000107 × (people per square mile)1.4

Two numbers set every bill in Colorado. Change either one and every landowner's bill moves together.

Set once a decade.

Density comes from the ten-year Census, so every owner can plan ahead.

No ground left out.

A tract with no residents, such as Denver International Airport, uses the density of the tracts around it.

Empty lots get built.

Two 1.2-acre lots two blocks apart pay the same. One holds 350 homes, $1,679 each. The other is a parking lot.
